Our Favorite Stories:

Story One:
“Your blood pressure is high today.”

“Yes, and I’ve been having chest pain.”

This is the conversation that began a life-saving trip for one of Community Health Ministry’s clients who came in to see the dentist. Because we screen all of our clients, we were able to catch his high blood pressure and refer him to medical care that provided him with a life saving cardiac bypass just in time. He is healthy and well today because of a simple intervention in the safety net clinic that Community Health Ministry provides.

Story Two:

“Can you see a patient for me? She can’t afford to keep coming to my office and she isn’t getting the education she needs to manage her diabetes.”

As we began to work with this client, her blood sugar levels were in the 600-700s—very dangerous for a diabetic, or anyone for that matter. After a year of regular care and medication, her blood sugar levels are back down in a more normal range and she has successfully returned to work.

Story Three:

The value of one stop care at Community Health Ministry is demonstrated when we meet clients like Ron (not his real name) who came to us homeless and with few personal items. With a few telephone calls and assistance from our Emergency Shelter Grant program, we were able to find him a home and the necessary furniture and household goods. We were also able to get him in to see the doctor and dentist and help him find a job. His gift to us is volunteer time in the community helping others and he has found a new group of people to help in his church!

Story Four:

With two weeks to go before a scheduled C-section delivery, one mom from Marysville woke up with an excruciating toothache. Trips to the local emergency room lead to the conclusion that she needed dental care and fast due to infection, or she couldn’t keep her c-section appointment. A frantic call from Marysville on a Friday morning found our volunteer dentist in house and willing to see her so she could have her pain relieved, get needed medication and have her baby as scheduled.
